Burundi Coffee

Burundi is a small land locked country in Central Africa.  It has been a poor country with not much industry and very little to export.  Growing a better quality of coffee may change the cysle of poverty.

Aribica coffee trees were introduced by the Belgians in the 1930's - but the grade of coffee was just very average.  then a civil war interrupted progress.  With the war over and with professional help from growing to marketing there is hope for a change.

Burundi is now growing premium coffee.  The World Bank is funding this effort and Seleus Nezerwe is the coordinator of the project.   In the future the coffee will be more marketable and the coffee growers will learn how to be competitive. Buyers from the U.S. are visiting to sample this coffee.

Avoid Health Destroying Snacks

What snack doabout it or do you just grab the easiest thing available and think that a candy bar or doughnut is going to lift you up with the energy that you need; when the body needs some extra energy between three to five in the afternoon.  Do you eat too much junk food?

Doughnuts - The high sugar level of doughnuts will end in a midday crash.  They are also high in transfats and refined flour - high in calories.  Does the grease give anyone indigestion - this is what happens to me. I do not have to think twice about avoiding this awful food. Why would I want to put something so bad into my body.  You can substitute a piece of whole grain bread with peanut butter and jelly.

Softdrinks -  I have always thought that there should be a law against making and foisting this junk on the public.  There is absolutely no nutrtional value to soda - whether diet or regular.  If there is a tax on these drinks in the state of New York, they should tax both.  Try some sparkling water and fruit juice.  Drink a tasty tea or have a refreshing glass of water.

French Fries -  Any fried food should be avoided .  Fried foods contain altered fats that are not good for the body and your health.   Take finger foods (vegetables)  Anything but the fried stuff.

Instant Soup _  these soups are very high in sodium and offer very little in nutrion. A better choice would be to have a low-sodium with part whole wheat and buckwheat noodles such as Japanese soba or udon.  Make a pot of soup and put it in easy take along containers - freeze it if you it won't last the working week and microwave at work.

Fight Fatigue

Some natural ways to fight fatigue so you can get the rejuvenating sleep that you need.  The majority of people need seven to eight hours of sleep.  Persistent fatigue and going long periods of time without the proper amount of rest  has recently been proven detrimental to your overall health.  Lack of sleep can be a cause of obesity, stress and it does not do wonder for your complexion.

First, think about the amount of exercise that you get.  Moderate exercise is an energizer - this means twenty to sixty minutes three times a week or thirty minutes of walking every day is helpful.  Do not exercise within two hours of bedtime.

Over the counter medications can eventually cause sleeplessness.  That means melatonin and valium.  Blood pressure medication can cause you to stay awake as well as antidepressants and antihistamines.

Eat you main meal  earlier in the day and have a lighter snack if you are hugary later.  A larger breakfast is better than a large lunch.

B vitamins are great to raise up the energy level.  Some people can use a vitamin B12 shot for an energy boost.  B12 tablets work and are less costly.

Coenzyme Q-10 helps fight fatigue.  I maximize the hearts pumping efficiency.  Take 30 mg once or twice a day.

Ginseng tea, capsules or extract boosts energy.  Do not take with caffeine, since it may cause heart palpitations.

Strawberry Chiffon Pie

Fresh strawberries washed and sliced - add a bit of sugar.  Then use either unflavored gelatin or strawberry gelatin which you make according to the directions.

You beat the egg whites and mix in the mashed strawberries and whipped cream. Add the cooled down gelatin and pour into a ready pie crust.

A regular pie crust is great to use, or try a graham cracker crust for variety.  Crush the graham cracker and add a bit of melted butter - mix it up and pat it down in a pie plate.

The same can be done with vanilla wafers.  Place in the refrigerator for a while to cool and thicken.  For decoration squirt whipped cream around the edge and decorate the center with
sliced strawberries.  A delicious dessert.

The Top 7 Part 3

Carrots -  The beta-carotene is this tasty vegetable is a disease fighting powerhouse.  it protects cell membranes from toxin damage.  Carrots also have vitamins and phytochemicals that protect against cancer of the mouth, esophagus and stomach.

There are studies that show carrots protect against cervical cancer  due to the fact that the antioxidents fight HPV (human papilonma virus).
Leace the carrots whole while steaming them - this helps protect against the leeching of healthy nutrients.

Spinach -  Spinach may be one of the most powerful vegetables to eat.  Spinach contains lutein, zeaxanthin, carotenoids.  These antioxidents remove unstable molecules from your body .  Other dark green leafy vegetables contain these ingredients too.

Folate and fiber in these vegetables help your body produce new cells and repair DNA.  Enjoy raw or steamed.  Their are so many mixes of ready made salads to choose from that you need not without healthy greens.  Some of these greens are easy to grow in a garden, even an indoor one.  Kale, collard greens and spinach taste great as early new greens.  Get the children involved and there will be a green vegetable in your house year round.
