Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis, also known as pinkeye is caused by viruses or bacterial germs.  Poor air quality and bad  environmental  conditions can also cause this annoying eye problem. A respiratory infection may cause pink eye.   I have had this condition and usually  it was caused by a bad cold.  The eyes are irritated, reddish in color and can feel sticky.  In the morning there can be pus that needs to washed out of the eye.  It is itchy at times and painful.

If you avoid rubbing the eyes from the itching, the body's healing powers. will sometimes get rid of the problem by itself.  An herbal eyewash made from hyssop or chamomile that has antiviral protection can help too. Place 5 - 10 drops into warm water and use three times daily.  Soak a compress and  press against the closed eye lids.

At time more aggressive measures need to be taken.  Anti-inflammatory medicines, anti-histamines and antibiotic eye drops will relieve the problem.

It is especially important to be wary because pinkeye can sweep through schools, during a time when illnesses are going around. Do not treat it lightly.  Your healing system will do its job, but you need to help it along.
