Lemon balm is healing for a herpes outbreak. It is rich in antiviral properties. Buy tea
bags from the health food store, brew and drink up to four cups a day. You can also
place a bag that has been soaked in warm water directly on any sore for fifteen minutes.
Lysine is very effective for healing a herpes cold sore. Lysine is an amino acid that
blocks arginine, another amino acid that fuels the herpes virus. You can supplement
your diet with 500 mg a day of lysine, or you can take a 500 mg dose three times a day
until this painful sore is mostly healed. As someone who suffers from these sores, I have
found that lysine helps the swelling and the painful blisters heal faster.
Tea tree oil is also helpful in the treatment of cold and canker sores. Apply tea tree
at first outbreak, then three to four times a day. Zinc lozenges that alleviate colds have
also worked to soothe canker outbreaks.
Avoid toothpastes that have sodium lauryl sulfate(SLS), a detergent found in many
cosmetic products and toothpaste. It is very drying to the lining of the mouth and gums.
