In the Sunday New York Times there was a disturbing article about cancer patients. People
have adapted to their treatment and cancer is a way of life. Some people gain that five year
survival rate, but others seem to go through the revolving door of treatment, tests, and then more
treatment.
There are no guarantees, but through diet a lot can be done to avoid this dreadful disease.
- Iodine (from asparagus) can be helpful in preventing cancer and other cell-destroying diseases.
- Garlic can block colon cancer and other forms of the disease
- Asparagus contains substances that assist the body in normal cell formation.
- Antioxidants that protect against cancer: apricots, cantaloupe, carrots, citrus fruits, kale,
parsley, spinach, sweet potatoes, turnip greens, winter squash, yams
- Broccoli, cucumber, eggplant, pepper, and tomatoes contain plant steroids that block
estrogen promotion in breast cancer.
- Tomatoes and red grapefruit contain "lycopenes", chemical ingredients that protect against
canceer.
- Green tea, berries contain catechins that protect against cancer
- Eat whole grains, nuts and seeds. Stay away from cigarettes, alcohol and white sugar.
- Stay out of the sun. Absorb a bit of Vitamin D, but do not overdue the exposure.
