Benefits of Vitamin C

Vitamin C comes to the Rescue and can assist in many ailments.

Vitamin C  helps lungs to function efficiently.  It can prevent asthma, bronchitis and other
lung problems.  Reseachers studied the diets and lung function of 2,500 people they found
that the people who consumed the most vitamin C had the best functioning lungs.  Ten ounces
of orange juice a day or a daily supplement is adequate.  I do at least 500 mg. of the vitamin
a day.  People who live and work in polluted areas would benefit.

Vitamin C and Arthritis

An eight year study of 640 people showed that osteoarthritis in the knee progressed much
more slowly in those people who consumed a lot of vitamin C.
Two theories explain this effect.  Vitamin C's antioxidant effect soak up the free radicals
that are released by the knee joint.  Vitamin C also helps the body synthesize proteins that
repair any arthritis damage.

of Medicine.

Much has been written and researched about the benefits of vitamin C and the common
cold.  It has been shown that cold sufferers who take extra vitamin C suffer four days
as opposed to seven days.  Chewable forms of vitamin C may be bad for the teeth.

Ulcer Protection

High blood levels of Vitamin C or ascorbic acid in people, helped to avoid infections
from Helicobacter pylori, a common cause of ulcers.

I have been there with this bacteria - I never got the ulcer, but had a lot of discomfort
for many years.

Oranges, red bell peppers and strawberries have a lot of vitamin C.

Vitamin C and Bladder Cancer

Bladder cancer risk can be cut by up to one-third by consuming vitamin C.  Fruit and
a daily multivitamin supplement is important.

Vitamin C and Artery Link

Vitamin C helps artery walls from clogging.  LDL cholesterol has to be oxidized before
it can attach to artery walls.  Vitamin C keeps oxidation of LDL cholesterol low therefore
reducing the clogging of the arteries.
