When we think of weight training we often only think of lifting weights to increase or gain muscles. Often we forget that weight or strength training is part of our physical fitness. There are many health benefits with strength training that can be achieved when done correctly.
It is important that you follow certain steps when working out to avoid injury. First, you must warm up by using lighter weights at the same repetition you will use throughout your workout. Second, in order to increase blood flow through the muscles, you must stretch. Not only will this increase blood flow, but it will also minimize injury to your muscles and improve your flexibility. Then you can begin your workout by working the larger muscle groups, such as your core muscles, then the smaller muscles like your arms and chest. Once you have completed your workout, make sure you allow yourself time to cool down. Cooling down is done at a lower intensity and will help prevent blood from building up in the extremities.
There are many benefits to regular exercise. You can increase your lifespan, improve your mood, prevent chronic disease, etc. Exercising can also help you manage your weight. If you have certain forms of diabetes and are taking insulin, regular exercising is shown to have a positive effect, allowing numerous diabetics the benefit of no longer taking insulin.
Before beginning any exercise program, make sure to speak with your doctor. If you become injured, please seek your doctors permission before returning to your exercise program.
