Cold Sores

Cold Sores are a nuisance and they are ugly and painful. They are caused by a herpes virus and
can be caused by lack of certain nutrients, stress and by intense exposure to ultraviolet light.

There are some ways to reduce the time period of an outbreak and even prevent one from
appearing.

Use zovirax - this antiviral drug is obtained by prescription.  It contains acyclovir, and if you dab
it on when you first feel an uncomfortable tingling feeling, you may prevent an outbreak

Always wear a sun block  over the areas where the sores appear and use a lip balm with a
protection factor of at least 15 if you plan outdoor activities.

Add a vitamin B supplement recommends Fred Magaziner D.D.S. who is a spokesperson
for the Academy of General Dentistry Studies.  Riboflavin and folate are especially helpful
in preventing sores around the edges and in the corners of the mouth.

Zinc may also inhibit the herpes virus from breaking out.

Brewer's yeast, milk, meat or soybeans are good sources of lysine.  Take a lysine
supplement to help block the reproduction of herpes virus.

I get frequent cold sores and found  a product at CVS called Lysine Plus. Zinc Oxide
is the active ingredient and it contains many natural ingredients like Vitamins A,D,E in
a natural base of olive oil.  It also conatains Goldenseal, Calendual, Tea Tree Oil to name
a few.
